Blogging can be a great way to get more visitors to your website but if your blog hasn’t been updated in months or all your posts are too salesy your blog strategy won’t work
A great business blog shouldn’t sell; it should show customers why they should do business with you and not your competitors through demonstrating your knowledge and credibility.
While we would always advise that your blog programme should be centred on some thorough keyword research it is still hard to come up with new and interesting ways to write about those topics.
There are loads of lists out there but if you are looking for ideas for your business blog here are our top 20 favourite types of blog posts.
- Write a case study or customer success story, give an outline of the brief, any issues that had to be solved and share the success of the results.
- Publish your client testimonials as a blog post. Add some sentiment about how the kind words made you feel and perhaps outline the service or project your client received.
- Answer a popular question. An FAQ post shows you’re responsive and saves customers time for ideas on what questions are being asked. You could use the tool answer the public: https://answerthepublic.com/.
- Talk about trends. You convey authority when you tell how things are evolving in your industry; add some personal insight and opinion.
- Review a product or service from a 3rd Choose a related service that is not in direct competition. The 3rd party will often be delighted to get the coverage and will share the post on social media further extending your reach.
- An extension to the service or product review is a Comparison test. Provide even more value by comparing two or more related products or services.
- Post a video. Create variety with a video post; it doesn’t have to be a professionally produced company video. Use your phone to capture the atmosphere at an event
- Create an infographic. Fact-filled, graphic posts get shared a lot on social networks and can be a good way of providing information or instructions quickly and clearly.
- Go behind the scenes in your business or do a “day in the life of” post. Detail a typical day in the office giving an insight into the work you do and giving an opportunity to show your personalities or the office dog
- Show your charity work. If your business gives back to the community, post a video or photo about your company’s latest bake sale or dress down day.
- Write a series or break a big topic up into smaller more digestible posts. Series are a good way to turn casual readers into subscribers.
- Write an introduction post for any new staff that joins your team.
- Publish the results of your client satisfaction surveys. They are like a 3rd party endorsement that you can control to a certain extent. Use something like SurveyMonkey to make this easy.
- Ask your business contacts or suppliers to write a post for you. Most will be delighted to get the extra exposure and you will get valuable content – and perhaps as a return favour have a guest spot on their blog.
- Tell the story of your business. People love to read about other people’s successes and challenges, write about why and how you started your business. What hurdles did you have to overcome? Be an inspiration to your readers.
- Write posts about any speaking opportunities that you may have been given. Give a synopsis of the talk content and write about the atmosphere at the event.
- Short on time? Write Tips and tricks list. A short punchy post with a list of bullet points of tips. You can always write expanded posts on all of the tips listed and link to them at a later
- Create a resource list, this could be a list of good business books, links to other credible information sources or even links to your own blog posts i.e. a round-up of all the posts on a particular subject.
- Celebrate your successes and post about any major business that has been won (with your customer’s permission). Shout about any awards nominations or success you have had.
- Write a love letter to your customers thanking them for their business and expressing how you love working with them.
