You can’t really go wrong with the crowd pleaser. Think food hampers, bottles of alcohol, boxes of chocolate or biscuits – basically anything consumable that can be shared. These are ideal if you haven’t got a huge budget and would like to thank a whole team, rather than an individual. High street vouchers are also a popular choice as they have a wide appeal.

The useful gift

If you know your customers well and have a good idea what their preferred leisure pursuits or interests outside of work are, this makes for the ideal gift. A recipe kit with all the spices you need to make a new curry every month for an ambitious amateur chef, a personalised towel for a sports enthusiast, tickets to see a favourite band, or spa treatments for a tired mum are all great gift ideas that will leave a lasting impression in the recipient’s mind. Every time they see or experience your gift, they will be reminded of you.


Sometimes, it’s nice to break with tradition so some businesses have started scrapping client gifts and are donating money to charity instead. If this is supported by a wider CSR policy and appropriate messaging, this can send a powerful message to your clients, whilst supporting a good cause. Not every business has the resources or budget to purchase gifts for their clients. Even when budgets are tight, a simple handwritten Christmas card and a token gift such as a scratch card or lottery ticket can leave a lasting impression on your clients – after all, it’s usually the thought that counts.
