RIAA Barker Gillette is an established law firm with a reputation built on delivering high-quality legal services across a broad range of practice areas. With a strong client base and deep expertise across its legal departments, the firm had everything it needed to grow… what it needed was the time, resources, and our strategic support to make that growth happen.
In July 2025, we began working with their team to take that next step together. Alex Deal, Managing Partner, had this to say:
“When Lou and the team at Consortium came on board, it made an immediate difference. Marketing had always been something we knew mattered, but it was never getting the attention it deserved. Having a team we could trust to take on our marketing properly and do it well has freed us up to focus on what we do best. The results speak for themselves, but what's been just as valuable is having a marketing partner who genuinely understands our firm and what we're trying to achieve.”
The Brief
When we first started working with RIAA Barker Gillette, the firm's Practice Manager, who has since moved on, was carrying responsibility for marketing alongside a wide range of other demands on their time. It was a familiar challenge: marketing matters, but it rarely gets the dedicated focus it deserves when it sits alongside so many other operational priorities.
The immediate need wasn't a fully formed marketing strategy. It was hands-on support; someone to take ownership of the firm's marketing activity, deliver it consistently, and give the Practice Manager the confidence to focus elsewhere.
That's exactly what we set out to do.
The Approach
From July 2025, we took on responsibility for delivering a broad range of marketing activity across the firm and its individual departments. Rather than beginning with a tailored marketing strategy, we got to work straight away, ensuring nothing fell through the gaps while also getting to know the firm, its people, and its priorities from the inside out.
Now, eight months on, that foundation is firmly in place, and we are in the process of developing a more structured, firm-wide marketing strategy to build on everything we have put in place so far.
Some of the key areas we have supported RIAA Barker Gillette with include:
- Social media management across all platforms, maintaining a consistent, professional presence that reflects the firm's expertise.
- Monthly client newsletters via Mailchimp and an internal newsletter to drive engagement across both external and internal audiences.
- Website management and blog content to keep the firm's digital presence current and improve search visibility.
- Operational support including onboarding assistance, photoshoot coordination, and department meetings to progress targeted marketing activity.
- Event organisation and relationship-building, including a joint networking event with a key client and introductions to collaboration opportunities within our network.
- Third-party liaison, including with LawNet, to secure external features and enhance the firm's profile.
- Business development support through a referral programme and management of ReviewSolicitors to protect and grow the firm's online reputation.
- Regular partner-level reporting to ensure clear visibility of marketing performance and activity.
The Outcome
In less than a year, RIAA Barker Gillette has gone from a stretched marketing resource to a consistent, active presence across its digital channels, with impressive results to show for it.
Growing their LinkedIn presence
Between 1 July 2025 and 8 April 2026, the firm gained 794 new LinkedIn followers, while LinkedIn engagement increased by 101% and impressions rose by 183%, reaching 46,695 over the period. The firm's LinkedIn page also attracted 2,654 page views and 1,167 unique visitors, clear signs that the right people are taking notice.
Strong email marketing results
On email, the firm's newsletter campaigns have achieved an average open rate of 52.8%, a 1% increase on the previous benchmark, and a result that sits well above industry averages for the legal sector. Regular, well-crafted newsletters are keeping the firm's clients informed and engaged.
Alex reflects on the progress made:
"The progress we've made in under a year has been genuinely impressive. We're more visible, more active, and more connected with our clients than we've ever been, and we're only just getting started.”
Lou Gilbert, Associate Director and Head of Legal at Consortium, reflects on our partnership:
"RIAA Barker Gillette is a firm with real depth, experienced people, strong client relationships, and a genuine commitment to doing things the right way. It has been a pleasure to work alongside the team and help them find new ways to communicate what makes them special. Will Gordon has been a fantastic support throughout, and together we've been able to cover a huge range of activity for the firm. I'm excited about what the next phase looks like as we move into a more structured strategy."
